Lifelong Learning …
This principle applies not only to children but also to adults. In this time, when Europe is growing together more and more, lifelong learning poses great new challenges for us. We as staff members of the Thüringer Ökoherz e.V. want to meet these challenges, open up to our European neighbours, and together learn from each other.

World of Carpathians - Awareness Raising about the Carpathian Biodiversity

In 2006, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) selected the Carpathians as one of the priority ecoregions of the world the protection of which is crucial in maintenance of natural diversity. One of the significant obstacles in effective nature protection is lack of information available and low awareness of local people and visitors to Carpathians about their extraordinary natural and cultural value. That is why the project is focused on building awareness and promoting Carpathian mountain curricula throughout the region. It supports the preparation of:
1) a methodical handbook for teachers and other educators “World of Carpathians”
2) information material about Carpathians for public

Both materials will be published in three language versions: in English, Slovak and Polish and will be distributed in seven Carpathian countries and in other EU states. Their distribution will be linked with the media promotion and their presentation at various international events. To transfer also know-how, the main form of distribution of the teaching handbook will be training session for teachers and other educators. A set of teaching tools prepared on the basis of the handbook will be presented together with possibilities of use of the handbook during the classes.
As the project will lead to the improvement of environmental awareness, and thus, to the enhancement of conservation of mountain ecosystems, the project ought to significantly contribute to implementation of Carpathian Convention.

Period: December 2007 - December 2009

„Organic Argicultur – Growing together for one Europe“

Overall goal of the project is the education of people who are involved in the organic sector as well as education of conscious consumer behaviour in Europe. Organic farming is multifunctional concept, which deals with issues of sustainable agricultural production. Organic farming protects the environment, natural resources, produces high-quality organic food and creates harmonic rural landscape. The whole organic movement takes care of diversity and provides proper living conditions for humans and animals. However, wider awareness of these benefits is missing among the farmers, public bodies, food retailers, policy makers, teachers as well as consumers. The goal of the project is to develop a guideline for adult education based on various experiences from European countries involved in this partnership. The guideline will ensure the knowledge transfer to specific target groups and enhance the education of key actors in organic sector. Project will focus on the topic of engagement of disadvantaged social groups in the organic sector, the role of organic farming in nature protection and organic farming as a tool for human health.
